  • Do the residents live permanently on the AFIL campus?
No. Some may spend several years living on our campus, but eventually each resident has the goal of moving on to a more independent setting. However, our sister organization (Storey Lane Independent Living, Inc. – slildallas.org) does have long-term living options available. Feel free to contact Sarah Causey for more information.
  • Do AFIL residents have to work?
Residents are required to work or volunteer at least part-time. Finding work and volunteer opportunities are included in the services of the AFIL program.
  • Where is AFIL located?
AFIL is in Northwest Dallas near Love Field Airport and Bachman Lake. The nearest highway cross points are I-35 and Northwest Highway.
  • How much does AFIL cost?
The monthly cost of living at AFIL varies, depending in which Level a resident lives. Click here to see our pricing information.
  • If I’m interested in touring or starting the process of applying for myself or a loved one, what is the next step?
To learn more, talk more, or tour, either call Sarah Causey at 214-351-0798 or simply click on the request a Tour by clicking here.

To be eligible to be a resident at AFIL, an individual must be at least 18 years of age, have a diagnosis of an Intellectual, Cognitive or Learning Disability, and have the desire to want to work towards a more independent life.
  • Is AFIL classified as a group home or an assisted living home?
No, AFIL is neither of these as we do not provide the level of support available in those environments. AFIL is a residential life skills campus which teaches, coaches and encouraged independent living.
  • Does AFIL provide transportation for the residents?
AFIL does not provide transportation outside of AFIL activities. We encourage residents to use DART Paratransit services or public transportation.
  • Does AFIL accept Medicaid or Insurance?
AFIL is a private/self-pay organization. We do not work with Medicaid Waiver, HCS, ICF, or accept insurance. Our cost is broken down to Room/Board and Tuition.
